I'm used to people knowing my past. But I don't wish for others to have to experience it first hand. [ The pain he's seen those he's starting to care for go through has been far more troublesome than reliving his own issues.
There's a pause at the request, not used to people just wanting to talk to him still, and he finally gives a nod before remembering she can't see him. Woops. ]
Well, I don't and I won't unless you offer to tell me freely. [she says firmly. she's had bad experiences with someone using Tinya and her memories for the other's purpose, even tricking Tinya's husband. she'd never want the same to happen to someone else, especially not Sasuke, her first and perhaps best friend here]
All right. I'll tell you about...whatever you like, really? Space. My adventures as a super-hero. My family. [a small laugh] My cats along with Moonlight and Carmilla?
I, well. I try? It's easier to be kind than cruel. [a pause] What do you feel comfortable sharing?
I was in a team. The Legion. I joined after I found a bomb planted by terrorists to blow up the United Planets' assembly hall. [a pause] That wasn't the last time we heard from them and I still expect them to come back. The upper echelon are in prison, but one can't imprison a person for their thoughts and opinions.
Mm. My childhood, ninja training, memories of my village. My time as a terrorist, though that's not usually anything people want to hear.
[ He's quiet for a moment, wondering if the Legion is anything like the kages, but not sure how to even phrase that kind of question. ] Well. They could imprison people for it, but it's good they don't. What did your Legion do?
...is it something you want to talk about? I promise I won't judge if you do.
[more like the Legion of Overly-Emotional Teenagers, all with potentially lethal super-powers] We fought intergalactic threats. Things which were above the pay grade of the Science Police and the military Mother formed. We were the best, the smartest, the toughest. We were also very popular with the average citizen. Maybe a little too popular.
...strange in a good way or bad way? Terrorism doesn't exist without cause.
Yeah. We had fans. They had no boundaries. And the holo-personalities watched us like hawks, waiting for the slightest hint of drama or discord. Which the fans ate up, so the holo-personalities only got more and more invasive.
Both, maybe. Sometimes the cause is just to make others suffer.
Hn. That sounds like a waste of energy. But I've never understood the obsession with celebrities. My friend, Naruto... He's a famous hero now, too. Everyone thinks they're entitled to a piece of him in some way.
Sometimes. But that's the exception, not the rule. Even those terrorists who'd planted a bomb in the United Planets' assembly hall had a cause. Even the terrorist who killed me, he had a cause. One I disagreed with wholeheartedly, but still a cause.
It is. I've been fighting off holo-personalities since I was a little girl, though. My bloodline...well, you know it's important back home.
But I never understood it, either, maybe their own lives were so dreary, they wanted to live vicariously through people like us. [a pause] And who is Naruto? You've never mentioned him to me.
... You died? [ He's seen people come back from the dead before so this isn't as shocking to him as it might be to most, but it's still a concerning thing to hear. ]
Mm. The Uchiha clan was highly well known. It still is. I understand.
[ There's another pause. Thinking about Naruto makes his heart ache, knowing he'd been on his way to see him again, but now he never knows if he ever will. ]
...yes. I burned to death at the heat vision of someone who thought himself superior to me by accident of birth.
I'll tell you about my foremothers if you tell me about your--your forepersons? [a pause] The Uchiha clan. Are you its current standard-bearer?
[it seemed an easy enough trade. she was so used to not being what her foremothers wanted her to be that it seemed like she could never please them.
she waits patiently during the pause. she wants to know more about Sasuke, but on his terms. not hers. but one thing stands out] You said once that I remind you of someone from home. Is it him? Or am I being egotistical and full of myself? If so, feel free to tell me off.
I'm sorry. That's a terrible thing to have to go through.
[ His forepersons. Sasuke swallows, before giving a small grunt of confirmation. Standard-bearer is about right. ] I'm the only one left. My entire clan was killed when I was a child.
[ He's surprised for a second that she remembers, before he lets out a soft chuckle. ]
Yes. It is. Though he's more arrogantly confident and hyperactive than you.
no problemo, as long as the cats are safe! and this is the most introspective icon i have whoops!
It is. It was. Pretty much everything that followed, including me as a ghost, sucked.
[her mother is the standard-bearer of the Wazzos. her great-great grandmother and her daughter have retired as dowager queens, only to be roused when some nobody wanted to do a holo-tribute to somebody] ...sweet Mistress. I'm sorry. That---it has to be awfully painful. May I...may I ask how old you were when it happened?
[she's been taught by her mother to remember everything. one of the few positive lessons her mother left to her. and, lightly] I can increase the arrogance? And the hyperactivity? [lightly teasing, at least she hopes so]
no cats were harmed in the making of naruto or i probably couldn't watch it lol
[ His voice gets a little more quiet, not because he's uncomfortable talking about it all, but simply because it's the only way to keep his voice as even as it usually is. ] Seven and a half. The half felt like it was somehow important back then.
[ There's a soft groan, though it's not as annoyed as he wants it to sound. ] Please don't.
Mm-hmm. When my body died, I managed to survive as a ghost. At first, only a few people could see me. My husband. My mother. But I was able to find another me and now I'm back to being myself again.
[she listens intently, worried about him and what he might say. any age is too young to go through what he did] ...sweet Mistress. That's. I'm not sure there's a strong enough word for what happened to you. To your family.
[but that brings a small smile, although she's still badly thrown by the idea of losing one's entire family at seven and a half] All right. Just because I'm being nice.
Interesting. [ Shitty that she had to go through it, but he can't help but be fascinated by the way death works in other worlds. Maybe it's because of having been exposed to it so young that he became more obsessed with the idea. ] In my world, ghosts are simply the essence of ones chakra manifesting. The only way they can get a new body is through a forbidden jutsu that's extremely difficult to perform.
[ He's starting to at least get used to the reaction towards his clan, though. People here seem to be almost more upset by it than people back in Konoha, but he's also learned his world is apparently a lot more fucked up than he gave it credit for. ] It is what it is. I spent enough time being angry about it, but ultimately, you can't change the wrongs of the past.
[very shitty. she still has nightmares where she's intangible to everyone and couldn't become sold again. the irony was that here, she found it next to impossible to become intangible. the one time it worked, her nose started bleeding profusely] Chakra? I'm not sure if I've heard that term before. [and side-stepping the part about the forbidden jutsu because what she was forced to do to get her body was pretty bad.
that would be a hard lesson to learn] Anger...that's understandable. But no, there's no changing the past, much as we might wish it to be otherwise. [she sounded resigned. there are so many parts of her past she'd change if she could]
Mm. It's the name we give the life force that flows through all things. Some planets don't have it, but it can be obtained by eating chakra fruit for those who weren't born with it, or spread and harnessed through the practice of ninshū, a creed in my world that is the basis for ninja techniques.
Really? That's amazing, it really is. I...honestly don't know if my world has it or not. I do have a teammate who's an expert martial artist, but he's never mentioned it before. So I guess we don't have it.
May I ask...what all you can do? And what ninshū involves? If that's not too much? I completely understand if it is.
You may have it without knowing what it is. Most life forms seem to in one way or another, even if they call it something different.
Mm, it's not too much. Ninshū was originally a religion of peace, founded by a man named Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo. It shows how chakra connects us to everything, including one another, and if we focused on those connections, we would be able to communicate more peacefully with one another. His brother Indra branched off of his teachings to show us how we could connect our inner spiritual chakras with the physical chakras of the world, making something called ninjutsu, weaponizing the originally peaceful ideals of Hagoromo.
With ninjutsu, you focus on specific chakra points, and you gather your inner energy in those places, warping them with hand signs to merge them with the physical energy of the world. With it, you can create just about any elemental based attack. My family specializes in fire jutsus, primarily breathing large fire balls or concentrating our chakra energy into balls of fire in our hands which we can then toss. I also use lightning jutsus, which I merge with my weapons to make them move faster than the speed of light. Water jutsus are popular, though not my specialty, and you can combine it with wind jutsus to make ice. There are also jutsus that are hereditary traits only. My eyes, the Sharingan and the Rinnegan, are hereditary traits to the Uchiha. The genjutsu I was explaining earlier is one of my family's many unique techniques that come from it.
Our current leaders are trying to find a balance between it. To use the weaponized ninjutsu to protect rather than cause conflict and to encourage the connections of the original ninshū teachings.
[ He pauses at the final question, the instincts from home being to not talk about it, because talking about it led to people trying to steal your eyes. But Tinya hasn't shown herself to be like that, so he tries to let that worry go. ]
Not every Uchiha has their ocular jutsu awaken. Someone who has inherited the Sharingan has to undergo an intense, emotional experience that releases a very specific type of chakra that concentrates itself in the eyes. With emotional growth and more powerful experiences, the Sharingan becomes more powerful, and can eventually manifest into an advanced form known as the Mangekyō Sharingan. The primary strength of both is genjutsus, which are a manner of illusionary techniques, but it can also be used to call on other powerful jutsus, such as Amaterasu, which creates an eternally burning flame, or it can manifest a chakra-based jutsu called Susano'o, who envelops the wielder in an armor of powerful chakra in the form of an ancient warrior. The Sharingan is extremely powerful, but it drains chakra from the body quickly, and you can end up overtaxing yourself if you aren't careful.
The Rinnegan, however, is the most powerful ocular jutsu that's known to exist in my world, and is only given to those who have met Hagoromo's chakra spirit and he chooses to gift it to them, or if someone somehow manages to get ahold of his and Inara's chakra in some way. The chakra concentrates in one or both eyes and gives the wielder the power to create new planets, new time dimensions, and travel through time and space.
Those who are not members of the Uchiha clan can get both the Sharingan or the Rinnegan, but it requires stealing the eyes of a user. Overuse can also cause injury to the optic nerves that it connects to and it can make the wielder go blind over time. The Eternal Mangekyō is a cure to this progression, but it's highly taboo, as it also requires stealing the eyes of another Mangekyō user. So my family spent a great deal of time either having to hide the status of our eyes, or fighting off enemies who tried to kill us for them, even within our own clan, though that was far more rare.
I'm glad that your world is trying. My foremothers ruled Bgztl, but it was more of an iron fist in a silk glove. We're supposed to look like beautiful flowers, but be the thorns beneath. War...didn't really happen, but they weren't above sanctions which would bankrupt a district.
[she's endlessly curious about other worlds. that served her well in the diplomatic corps (until Mother ruined everything) and she's positively fascinated by the details Sasuke shared]
I've really never heard of that before. But...it sounds like getting Sharingan eyes might be painful. Emotionally speaking. Between that and the Rinnegan, you've got to be the most powerful person I've ever met. I'm sure you could even kick Superboy's ass.
But...it's horrible, the idea of stealing eyes. Is there. A lot of people attempting that?
That sounds like it wouldn't be any better than war. People suffering is worse than soldiers dying if you ask me. At least we sign up for it.
[ He's become a far more compassionate person since he was able to come back from his Villain Stage. Protecting the innocent has almost become a compulsion of his. ]
I don't know who Superboy is, but likely. [ So humble. ] Though I'm not infallible. Someone weaker than I am could easily defeat me if they were a decent strategist.
There are. I... haven't been able to return to my home in years because I didn't want them to get attacked because of me.
